The most informative government shutdown/budget stalemate articles

Here's what I'm reading to stay informed on the impending government shutdown.

Eric Black's MinnPost story on Supreme Court setting a hearing on constitutionality of judiciary's role in keeping some parts of state running. 7/11/11. Major implications.

Another solid explanation of the impasse regards policy between Dayton and GOP by Elizabeth Dunbar, MPR. 7/11/11

Another good story by Elizabeth Dunbar of MPR on some real costs of a state shutdown.

Star Tribune solid explanation of complicated budget numbers. GOP spending "not an increase."

Here's a solid opinion piece by Jim Mulder, former Independence Party candidate for lieutenant governor. It's a viable solution to the state budget stalemate.

Another good Doug Grow analysis from MinnPost. Friday, July 1.

Doug Grow's excellent analysis piece in MinnPost, Thursday, June 16.

  1. I hope they don't have a government shutdown. I don't know what people are going to do. There are services that I receive and I have heard what is going to happen if the government has a shutdown. One person I get services from, I had heard from another source that the company that helps me out with these services that they haven't gotten paid for the last month. :( They get paid for their services through MA.

If there is a government shutdown, they aren't going to get paid. But what is amazing about them is that they still are putting 40 or more hours a week into helping people in our community even though they are not getting paid because of this whole government shutdown. I am thankful for the help I have received. They care about people!! They love their jobs! They love helping people in our community!

I worry for everyone involved. They need to get paid so that they can support their families too.

I know people who are disabled and receiving help from the county and a few of them have received letters in the mail today that say that they aren't going to be receiving their money, food stamps, MA and other services if they there is a government shutdown. It is going to be on hold.

A guy in my apartment complex who gets help from the county told me that he is worried and doesn't know what he is going to do because he needs his services and needs his food support. What is he going to do? Thank goodness there is the ECHO food shelf. What is he going to do without his financial support? Not everyone who is disabled gets social security disability. Some people with social security disability do get help from the county as well. People get help from the county for their mental health services or help for their physical or learning disabilities. For an example, they may get MSA or GRH in support to put toward food or living expenses. I worry for everyone! It is concerning! I am worried. :(

I don't know why some people are more concerned about the Vikings Stadium. What about the people in the state of MN? Why are some people more concerned about millionaires? We should be concerned about this budget crisis than people who could support themselves in having a stadium that they put their investment of their own money into and not involve the tax payers.

I find it to be sad. I wish the government could figure out a balance. I don't care about the Vikings. I don't. I more worried about the little people and the state of MN in general and the budget crisis. I am worried about workers that won't get paid. They need to support themselves and their families too. I am worried about the people who may not get their financial support and services that they are receiving from the county for an example. I am concerned about them.

Sometimes it is hard people to understand where I am coming from and why I am concerned.

I am honestly worried about what I am going to do too. I am having surgery to break apart a dime size kidney stone on my right kidney on June 30. I have bills that are being processed in Rochester from my surgery that I had back in mid May on my thyroid. If there is government shutdown July 1st, part of my insurance is not going to cover it. But, from my understanding I was told if a government shutdown does occur that once they figure out a balance that my MA will go back a few months and pay for it.

It hard for some people to understand if they have never walked in the shoes of having a love one with a disability or having a disability themselves. For the people who do understand, they have compassion.
